Born and brought up in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, a left-handed batsman has emerged as a new batting sensation in the Indian Premier League at the age of just 20. He made his debut for the most successful IPL team, which bid on him after looking at his First Class and List A cricketing performances. The bidding price for the player was a whopping 1.70 crores in the year 2022. Yes, you guessed it right, the player is none other than Tilak Varma.

Tilak has been playing exceptionally well since his IPL debut. In 2022, he was the top-performing batsman for MI, scoring 397 runs in his debut season. MI gave him a chance to play in all league-stage matches, and he didn't disappoint the management. He stayed not out thrice in fourteen matches with a strike rate of 131.02, an average of 36.09, and scored two half-centuries. He also secured the second position as the Emerging Player of IPL 2022.

In the first match of MI vs RCB in the year 2023, he played an important knock of 84 not out, breaking his highest score of 61. MI has played five matches in the league stage so far, and Tilak has already scored 214 runs with a strike rate of 158.52 and an average of 53.50, helping MI lay the foundation with his batting performance. In a recent match, Captain Rohit Sharma said, “I like the approach of Tilak, and we will soon see him in some other team as well (smiles).”

On a TV show, Irfan Pathan said, “In addition to his batting skills, he is an excellent thinker. He has the potential to be a leader for Mumbai. After Suryakumar Yadav, he will be the franchise's next captain. Take a look at his batting and how he communicates with other team members."
