We witnessed the emergence of several debutants who earned their spots through exceptional performances in the Indian Premier League. Notably, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Ishan Kishan in the test format, and Mukesh Kumar showcased their potential on the international stage.

Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out as the standout player of the Test match, amassing an impressive 171 runs. Tilak Verma demonstrated his prowess with scores of 39 in his first match and 51, In his second international match, underscoring his promising talent on the global cricket scene. Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar made his mark by claiming four wickets during the West Indies tour.

The Test Series:

India single-handedly clinched the test series by asserting dominance over the West Indies side, securing a resounding victory in the first test match with an innings and 141 runs to spare. The second match concluded in a draw, a situation favoring the West Indies, yet thwarted by the unexpected intervention of rain.

In the first match, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal notched centuries, while Virat Kohli fell just short of his own by scoring 76 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the linchpin bowler for the Indian side, claiming 5 wickets in the first innings and an impressive 7 wickets in the second, showcasing his remarkable skill with the ball. He was ably supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who followed suit in contributing to the team's success.

In the second match, Virat, the centurion, continued his impressive form by reaching a score of 121, marking his 76th international century and securing his first away century in two years. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal replicated their performance from the first match, following a similar pattern but falling short of reaching their individual centuries. Notably, Ishan Kishan achieved his maiden half-century in Test cricket. Additionally, Mohammed Siraj delivered a remarkable performance, clinching a five-wicket haul in the first innings. The match ultimately concluded in a draw due to persistent rain.

The ODI Series:

The ODI World Cup is on the horizon, and the Indian cricket team has encountered challenges in securing victories against teams that didn't qualify for the tournament. The West Indies presented a formidable challenge for the Indian team with their impressive bowling performance, leaving the Indian batsmen struggling to find their footing.

In the first ODI, Team India encountered a challenge while chasing the target of 114, losing 5 wickets in the process, yet ultimately emerging victorious. Rohit Sharma came into bat at the 7th position, and it's noteworthy that Virat Kohli did not bat. Kuldeep Yadav's comeback was remarkable.

In the second ODI, the Indian batting lineup crumbled, surrendering their wickets cheaply. The Indian Cricket Team managed to post a meager score of 181 before losing all their wickets. West Indies had a comfortable time chasing down the target on the field.

In the third match, there was a distinct approach to the game. The team successfully posted a total of 351, with all the batsmen making valuable contributions to the scoreboard. However, West Indies struggled to endure the challenge, losing all their wickets for a mere 151 runs.

The only notable takeaway from the ODI series against West Indies was Ishan Kishan's batting prowess, as he consistently scored 50+ runs in all three matches played.

The T20i Series:

The T20 series proved to be a heartbreak for Indian cricket fans, as the once-proclaimed best T20i team faltered against the West Indies, ultimately losing the series 3-2 to a team considered one of the weakest in the format. Despite the Indian squad being brimming with young players seasoned by their IPL experience, they couldn't capitalize on it.

In the opening match, the West Indies only managed to muster 149 runs, thanks to a commendable performance by the Indian bowlers. However, the Indian batting lineup had other intentions. Unfortunately, none of the batsmen could stand their ground against the West Indies' bowling attack, resulting in India's defeat.

The subsequent match followed a similar pattern, with India batting first and struggling to put up a mere 155 runs while consistently losing wickets. Tilak Verma shone on his debut, crafting a half-century. His audacious six on only the second ball of his maiden international match showcased his character. Despite the bowlers' valiant efforts to defend the total, West Indies emerged victorious.

In the subsequent match, Team India adopted a different approach, resulting in a shift in fortunes. Surya Kumar Yadav and Tilak Verma exhibited exceptional batting prowess, propelling India to victory. An unfortunate incident marred Verma's innings, as he was left stranded on 49 runs when captain Hardik Pandya opted for a six with only two runs needed off 12 balls. This decision drew criticism from Indian fans.

In the fourth match, India managed to level the series with a win. The West Indies posted a competitive score of 178, yet Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal had other plans. They constructed a remarkable opening partnership, amassing 165 runs, a feat that rivaled the previously held record by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

However, despite this commendable achievement, the last match of the T20 series witnessed India's downfall on the same ground they had previously dominated. Thus, the series concluded with India on the losing side.

Reflecting on the series, Rohit Sharma remarked, "We've been striving to fill the number four spot in the team since Yuvraj Singh's era, but our efforts have fallen short." Over the past two years, Team India underwent significant changes, experimenting with more than seven captains across formats. Amidst the turmoil, the standout moments of the West Indies tour were the debutants who displayed exceptional skill on the international stage. Notably, Tilak Verma and Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as key figures in the series.

Despite the positives, the Indian team faced considerable backlash from fans. The management's inclination towards trying new strategies and experimenting during the tour raised concerns, particularly with the ODI World Cup just two months away.
